8 Free Earth Day Events for Families in Ontario

April 22nd is Earth Day for those around the globe. This year Earth Day fell on a Tuesday, therefore many of the events and festivities are planned for April 26th and 27th. Here is a list of fun and free activities coming up in Ontario that everyone in the family will enjoy.

Brantford – Earth Week Public Tree Planting Event

This is a BYOS (bring your own shovel) event taking place on April 27th, from 10am-2pm in Brantford, ON. The goal is to plant a whopping 10,000 trees with the help of the community in the 65 acre New Forest. Clean Toronto Together

April 26th and 27th everyone in Toronto is invited to pick a spot, a road, or an area and clean it up. Gather friends, family, and neighbors and register your group, or join a group that has already registered a location. Visit the City or Toronto website for more details.

Whitby Earth Day Tree Planting

Children and families are invited to participate in the Whitby Earth Day Tree Planting event scheduled for April 27th from 10am to noon. This event is hosted by the Whitby Environmental Youth Alliance and will provide refreshments, shovels, and gloves. High school students can earn community service hours. To participate, meet in the parking lot of Cullen Park at 10am at 300 Taunton Road, Whitby, ON.

10,000 Trees for the Rouge Habitat Restoration

This family event takes place at Princess Street in Markham, ON, on April 27th from 9am to 4pm. Volunteers should meet at Walmart Plaza, 500 Copper Creek Rd, in Markham, to park. A free shuttle will takes volunteers and families to and from the site throughout the day. This annual event is rain or shine, so wear your rain boots and dress for a day of planting. Bloomin Earth 2014

This festival takes place on April 26th from 11am to 9pm in Kitchener, ON. People of all ages will enjoy free crafts and activities, as well as vendor booths featuring Earth friendly products and concession stands selling treats. There’s live music and live art displays scheduled. Families should bring a blanket to sit on and a re-usable tote if they plan to shop. This event is located at 200 King St West. Earth Day Hamilton Community Tree Planting Festival

Hamilton, ON is celebrating the Earth Day Hamilton Community Tree Planting Festival on April 26th from 11am to 4pm. This free festival features a kid zone, activities, tree planting, a 5K, and more. BBQ will be sold to raise funds for the cause, and there will be free trolley rides. This event will take place at McQuesten Park, 1199 Upper Wentworth St, in Hamilton, ON. Brant County Tree Planting Event

April 26th from 10am to 2pm in Paris, ON, is the Brant County Tree Planting Event hosted by the Grade 9 Advanced Planning Class at Paris District High School with support from the County of Brant, the Grand River Conservation Authority and the Brant Tree Coalition. Spring Forest Festival

The annual Spring Forest Festival takes place on April 26th from 10am to 3pm in Whitchurch-Stouffville, ON, at the Eldred King Tract, 16232 Hwy 48, Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville.
